Chemical peels

Controlled exfoliation for pigmentation, texture and early signs of ageing.

A chemical peel is a medical-grade acid solution applied to the skin to remove damaged outer layers in a controlled way. Superficial peels (such as glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid) improve brightness, texture and mild pigmentation with little downtime. Medium-depth peels treat deeper pigmentation and fine lines but need a longer recovery. The peel is chosen according to skin type and goals.

Who it suits

  • Sun spots and uneven tone
  • Rough texture and dull skin
  • Active or recent acne
  • Fine lines

How the appointment runs

  • 1

    Preparation

Home skincare for 2–4 weeks prepares skin and lowers the risk of pigmentation.

  • 2

    Cleansing

Skin is degreased so the peel penetrates evenly.

  • 3

    Application

The solution is applied and timed; a warm or tingling feeling is expected.

  • 4

    Neutralising and care

The peel is neutralised or removed, followed by soothing care and sun protection.

Aftercare

  • Strict sun protection with SPF 50 for 4 weeks
  • Do not pick flaking skin
  • Pause retinoids and exfoliants for 5–7 days

Risks and side effects

Redness, dryness and flaking are expected. Darker skin types have a higher risk of pigment changes, so peel strength and preparation are chosen carefully. Cold sores can flare in people prone to them; preventive treatment may be advised.

Questions about this treatment

Will my skin peel visibly?

Superficial peels often cause light flaking for a few days. Deeper peels cause visible peeling for up to a week.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Yes, with the right acid, strength and preparation. Your skin type is assessed before any peel.
